Statement
of the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners Regarding Life University College
of Chiropractic Accreditation October
23, 2002 Current Status of LUCC Accreditation: On October 20, 2002, the Council on Chiropractic
Education (CCE) conducted a hearing before the CCE Appeal Panel regarding the
Life University College of Chiropractic (LUCC) appeal of the CCE Commission on
Accreditation (COA) decision not to reaffirm the accreditation of LUCC.
Representatives of LUCC and the COA participated in the hearing. The CCE Appeal
panel has announced its ruling in the matter, and has upheld the decision of the
COA. This ruling means that, as of October 20, 2002, LUCC has no form of
accredited status with CCE. Pertinent Laws and Rules: O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-9-7
(d) requires that, "(d) Each applicant shall be of good moral
character and shall be a graduate of a chiropractic school or college accredited
by the Council on Chiropractic Education or a board approved successor or a
chiropractic school or college which is actively seeking accreditation from the
Council on Chiropractic Education or a board approved successor, which requires
a four-year standard college course and is approved by the board."
(emphasis added) Based on the authority granted to the Georgia Board of
Chiropractic Examiners by O.C.G.A 43-9-7 (d), the Board adopted Rule
100-12-.01 "Approved Chiropractic Schools or Colleges", on January
22, 1996. This rule provides a list of those schools and colleges accredited by
the Council on Chiropractic Education and approved by the Board.
Subsection (4) of this rule states: "(4) The failure of any of these schools or
colleges to maintain accreditation from the Council on Chiropractic Education or
a Board approved successor, if any, or to comply with the rules and regulations
established by the Board shall be grounds for removal from the Board's approved
list." Position of the Georgia Board of Chiropractic
Examiners: Although Life University College of Chiropractic has
notified the Board that they have begun the process of re-applying for
accreditation, CCE no longer gives any accredited status to institutions who are
"actively seeking" accreditation. The position of the Council on
Chiropractic Education that "LUCC has no form of accredited status with
CCE" precludes the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners from
approving applications for licensure in Georgia from graduates of LUCC whose
graduation dates are after October 20, 2002
until such time that Life University College of Chiropractic regains accredited
status with CCE. Continuing Education
(C.E.): After October 20, 2002, any CE programs solely
sponsored by LUCC are not eligible for Continuing Education credits with the
Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners. See Board Rule 100-5-.02(2) for
specific information pertaining to the CE provider requirements. Statement Regarding Previous Graduates of
LUCC: The Board wants to assure the public that all Life
University College of Chiropractic graduates currently licensed in Georgia have
passed rigorous national and/or state board examinations and have been found to
meet minimal competency requirements for chiropractic practice. Additionally,
all chiropractors licensed in this state must complete a minimum of 20 hours of
additional continuing education training each year. For
