RE: Loss of Accredited Status with the CCE: Life University College of
Chiropractic (LUCC)
We have received official notification from the Council on Chiropractic
Education that the CCE's Appeal Panel has conducted a hearing on the appeal of
the June 10, 2002, decision of the CCE's Commission on Accreditation not to
renew the accreditation of LUCC. The Panel upheld the COA decision.
The effective date of loss of accreditation is October 20, 2002.
The official public announcement of the original June 10, 2002, COA decision
includes the following excerpted language:
The COA decision is to deny reaffirmation of
accreditation for LUCC.
This decision constitutes revocation of
accredited status with the COA.
The June 10, 2002, COA decision did not become effective until yesterday pending
the results of the LUCC appeal.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) continues to accredit
Life University as an educational institution. No program-specific accreditation
is currently in effect for the Doctor of Chiropractic Program.
Public statements by LUCC officials indicate that currently, they plan to
initiate a new application to the CCE for accreditation for the Doctor of
Chiropractic Program, a process for which the time frame is undetermined.
The FCLB has been reviewing the issue and will soon forward additional
information which may be helpful in reviewing the legal status of current and
future students of Life University College of Chiropractic with your legal
counsel.
The Federation urges all boards to conduct a thorough legal review prior to
commenting to students or others regarding this issue. We will gladly accept
formal and final board positions for posting on our website in an effort to
provide accurate information to the public.
