Dr. Sommers Elected FCLB District II Director

James K. Sommers, D.C., of Dexter, Michigan, was elected as District II Director on the FCLB Board of Directors at the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards District II regional meeting held in Dearborn, Michigan.

He has represented the Michigan Chiropractic Board since 1995 and has served as board chair for the past three years. He has served as FCLB District II Alternate Director since 1998. Dr. Sommers has practiced in Michigan since 1968 and has a background in local and state government in the arena of emergency management. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Sommers has been involved with the Michigan Chiropractic Society since 1991, first serving on committees, then holding a vice-presidential seat on the board from 1997 to present. He is certified in chiropractic physiological therapeutics, rating of physical impairment for disability, and as a chiropractic sports physician. He is also a member of numerous community organizations as well as a member of the American Chiropractic Association.

The current District II Director, Jim Powell, D.C. (OH), is eligible to run another year but has accepted responsibilities as chair of Malone College in Ohio. “Dr. Sommers is a man of integrity and vision especially regarding the regulatory aspects of chiropractic. Our representatives have made a good decision that will enhance the current board and future of the FCLB,” says Dr. Powell.

FCLB’s District II fall meeting was held October 13 - 15, 2000. Dr. Leroy Otto (MN) was elected as the FCLB District II Alternate. The meeting provides a forum for chiropractic licensure and regulation representatives to network and discuss important regulatory issues.

Dr. Sommers will be installed as the District II Director during the annual business meeting at the FCLB 75th Annual Congress. The FCLB Annual Educational Conference will be held April 4 - 8, in San Antonio, Texas. For more information, see the calendar of events page on the FCLB website at: www.fclb.org
