REPORT FOR THE FCLB ANNUAL MEETING
SAN ANTONIO TEXAS
APRIL 04, 2001
As of March 1st, 2001, there are 978 members of l'Ordre des chiropraticiens du Québec.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES FOR 2000
Reform of the professional system
The government has given a mandate to an ex-president of the College of physicians and surgeons to reshape the actual professional system. They want to give more autonomy to health professional but under the "guidance" of medical doctors. Diagnosis will be the key issue and the chiropractic profession will have to mobilise all its members to win that fight.
The supreme Court of Canada and the chiropractic exclusive field of practice
After winning 30 court decisions for illegal practice of chiropractic against all kind of therapists, the profession lost one case against a physiotherapist in the Québec court of appeal and asked the Supreme Court of Canada to review the judgement. Unfortunately, the highest court of the Country refused to hear the appeal. We are now intervening on the legislative domaine for the exclusivity of the chiropractic adjustment and the public protection.
Standard questionnaires and the forms for all Québec chiropractors
92% of chiropractors agreed to utilize standard forms in there clinic. This goes from case history to specific condition. There is also an informed consent form which corresponds to Québec law. They will all be computerized and ready to be used for epidemiological studies ( French and English forms are available).
The chiropractic system of natural health care
Following the acceptance of the standards clinical forms and the creation of the CFCRB Specialities Committee, we will move forward for the implementation of the chiropractic system. A joint ACQ-OCQ committee will be at work very soon on that issue.
WCB and auto insurance
We are working very hard at the moment to get direct access for work accident and car accident victims to chiropractic care. We thank all provinces for there help in this matter.
