Association of Chiropractic Board Administrators

Connie Glasgow, Program Manager for the Washington Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission, has announced the annual meeting of the ACBA, Association of Chiropractic Board Administrators. The meeting will be held as a day long event on Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards. "Raising the Standard of Service" will be the theme of the meeting and will focus on numerous areas of interest and importance to chiropractic board staff.

The ACBA is an organization that had its beginning in February, 1986. At that time a small group of board administrators met to dialogue mutual interest and concerns of administrators and staff of state chiropractic regulatory boards. Bylaws were adopted and signed in 1989, in Las Vegas, NV.

Every year since that first meeting in 1986, the ACBA has continued to meet, to exchange data, to discuss issues, to trade "war" stories, and to have fellowship with board staff from other jurisdictions. Some administrators have said that this meeting is the most helpful gathering of the year to assist board staff in accomplishing the work, and meeting goals of their individual regulatory boards.

The Association of Chiropractic Board Administrators (ACBA) is open to all chiropractic board administrators and staff. By consensus of the attendees at the 1999 ACBA meeting in Philadelphia, the following organization decisions were made:

  1. No officers will be elected, but rather it is hoped that the board administrator from the board that hosts the annual FCLB meeting will serve as the facilitator of the group. Connie Glasgow has accepted that charge and will continue to serve as facilitator until the conclusion of the Seattle meeting in May.

  2. Dues were raised from $25 to $100. This was the first increase in dues since the launching of the group. Dues are payable at the beginning of each calendar year, and are used to defray costs of the annual meeting and other administration.

  3. The ACBA asked continued assistance from the FCLB staff in administering and organizing annual meetings and providing bookkeeping responsibilities.

Ms. Glasgow says, "In Seattle, the focus of the meeting will be networking and sharing experiences in a variety of subject areas." The WA administrator continues, "Hopefully this year we can involve many new administrators, and take the time to address numerous concerns related to all chiropractic board executives and staff. The new federal database HIP, the Internet, dwindling resources, international matters, and low morale are only some of the important issues that some or all boards face. We look forward to a time that will be useful and beneficial to all who attend."

The 2000 Seattle agenda is tentatively projected as:

9:00 A.M.: Welcome and Discussion
Noon: Lunch hosted by ACBA at the W-Seattle
1:00 P.M.: Discussion Continues
3:00 P.M.: Conclusion
