This Year's Tour

The Portland City Tour, Thursday, May 4, 2006
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.                 $35 / person

The professional narrating driver will be recounting stories of the past, present and future as your tour unfolds to reveal the secrets and highlights of the city.  The tour begins winding through the streets of Chinatown, Downtown and Old Town.  Learn the humble beginning of this now "cosmopolitan" city.  See the Pearl district, a neighborhood that is being renewed from derelict warehouses to upscale loft condos, restaurants, art galleries and retail shops.  Weinhard Brewery Blocks, Powell's Book Store, the 'pink' building, cast iron-fronted buildings (and what that did for the city in the early 1900's), the New Market Building and the history surrounding this waterfront community, are just a few of the stories that will be related during the tour.

Then it's fountains, bridges, markets, scuptures, Pioneer Square, the theater district, parks, bank buildings, museums and facades, churches, all waiting to be discovered by you!  It's just a few minutes drive up into the forested West Hills overlooking downtown Portland and the Willamette River.

In sprawling Washington Park, you will visit the world-renowned International Rose Test Garden and the incredible gift shop. Next, tour through the lovely Arlington Heights residential area and the Hoyt Arboretum.  Enjoy a scenic ride to the magnificent Pittock Mansion, nestled in the West Hills of Portland. Tour this French Renaissance mansion built in 1909; examine the 'modern' conveniences such as an intercom system and an elevator that was built into this gorgeous home of the Pittocks! Today, they are still reading the daily newspaper that he founded over 100 years ago!
