Denver Mountain Parks Tour
for spouses and guests of our conference attendees
On
the advice of Horace Greeley, founder of the New York Tribune, "Go
West" is what you will be doing as you embark on a Gray Line bus for a
tour of Denver’s mountain parks. We’ll take you through the Lakewood
suburb, home of the Denver Federal Center, on the way to Red Rocks
Park & Ampitheater. This natural ampitheater is flanked by two
towering 500-foot-high sandstone formations and is a popular venue for
both performers and audiences due to its near perfect acoustics and
beautiful mountain setting. You’re not likely to see anything like
this anywhere else, and be among those to visit the brand new
Visitor’s Center, which includes interactive educational displays
explaining the geologic and music history of Red Rocks, plus a
performer’s Hall of Fame display.
From
there you’ll head up the mountain, following the route of pioneer
stage coaches up Bear Creek Canyon to Evergreen, the "Blue Spruce
Capital of the World", toward our destination at the top of Lookout
Mountain, the site of Buffalo Bill Cody’s final resting place. Visit
the Buffalo Bill Museum with exhibits about the West and the man
himself, and enjoy the spectacular views of Denver and the mountains.
A hearty snack will be provided on the mountain-top before we descend
down the old "Lariat Trail" to Golden, Colorado’s Territorial Capitol
in 1862, where your tour guide will point out some of the highlights
of Golden’s historical downtown, as well as the Colorado School of
Mines, before heading back to Denver.
